The Dallas/Fort
Worth Basenji Club would like to introduce this year's show judges.
Both
judges have many years of experience judging the Basenji breed,
so
we are
especially honored to have them judging our show!
Please allow us to introduce this year's Specialty Judges:
William Cunningham | Karen Arends

William Cunningham
Regular and
Non-Regular Classes
(Non-Regular Classes include Veteran Dog and Veteran
Bitch)
In 1963, after serving four years in the Air Force, William Cunningham started in obedience with a Miniature Poodle who finished her C.D. in three shows. Having fallen in love with Standard Poodles he had seen in conformation, Bill knew he had to have one. He bred, owned and finished the Top Producing Standard bitch in breed history (CH. DACUN’S STAR-ING ROLE O’JAMELLE), and he co-bred the dam of the top winning Standard Poodle in breed history. (Ch. Lakecove’s That’s My Boy). He has bred many Champion Shih Tzu’s, Borzoi’s, Afghans, Whippets, Dachshunds and Basset Hounds. As an A.K.C. licensed handler, he showed Toys, Non-Sporting Hounds, some Working, and some Terriers. He retired from handling in 1995 and became a judge, which he continues to enjoy now. He has served on the education committee of two national clubs, Poodle and Shih Tzu. He is President of the Mid-Florida Judges Study Group and Vice-President of The Orlando Poodle Club and Shih Tzu Fanciers of Central Florida. He also belongs to three judges organizations. In addition to judging in almost every state in the US, he has also judged in Korea, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Finland and Canada. |

Karen Arends
Sweepstakes and Veteran Sweepstakes
Karen’s life has always involved dogs, as well as a variety of other animals – showing in conformation and obedience since the mid 1960’s and lure coursing since the early 1990’s. Along with her husband, Bob, and two children, Karen has been involved in conformation, water work, junior showmanship, therapy, companion and performance events - breeding Portuguese Water Dogs under the “Seabreeze” prefix. Their home currently includes Portuguese Water Dogs, Salukis and Italian Greyhounds. Karen’s interest in Basenjis began with her participation in lure coursing. She has enjoyed watching this athletic, entertaining breed excel both in the field and show ring. Karen has been extremely impressed with the loyalty of the Basenji Fancy for this fabulous breed. |
