Club Heroes

The DFW Basenji Club prides itself on our love of the Basenji breed and all
that love entails. However, once in awhile, a particular Basenji (or its owner)
stands out as a Hero of the breed. That Basenji shows uncommon valor or love for its owner,
or its owner shows a love so intense for the Basenji it seems the two are inseparable.

Unsung Heroes | Searching the Rubble | Blazer |

 

Over 250 canine search and rescue dogs worked around the clock at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon after the September 11th terrorist attacks. These heroes worked without the benefit of gas masks and protective clothing.  They climbed and searched places considered to dangerous for humans.  This photo tribute is in their honor in recognition of their bravery and heroic efforts.
		Unsung Heroes

		Never in the history of our world have dogs been called upon to serve humans in such a dark moment as the World Trade Center attack.  But serve they did, despite all hazards, through day and night and beyond all hope. Following the first week of rescue/recovery, no survivors were ever found, but despite these bleak statistics, the efforts were never futile—if anything can be said for the powerful, united spirit of humans and dogs.
Searching Rubble

I had just turned onto 157 North to go to Hurst when my cell phone rang. I figured it was Anita wanting an idea of what time I would be there, but when I answered, it was my husband telling me to call Anita right away. Something was terribly wrong. I could hear it in his voice. I found a place to pull off the road so that I could safely make a call and as soon as Anita answered the phone, my worst fears were realized. Her first words when she heard my voice struck icy fear into my heart...
