Monthly Basenji Play Dates

The DFWBC Basenji Play Dates are scheduled for the last weekend of each month, alternating between Saturdays and Sundays. The location also alternates between Saturdays and Sundays so everyone has an opportunity to bring their Basenji out to play.
As more dog parks are opened around the Metroplex we will consider expanding to other locations.

Please note that all dates and locations are subject to change, especially for dates that fall on holiday weekends. Meeting time is determined by heat and weather conditions,
so be sure to check this site each month before heading out.

Dog Park Etiquette

Most area dog parks have rules posted, but not all. The following list is a general guide only, comprised of regulations that seem to be consistent at most dog parks in the DFW area and across the country.

Please check for local rules posted at each dog park when you visit.

Dogs in the Dog Park
  1. All dogs must be current on vaccinations and have proof of rabies vaccination.
  2. Remove your dog if it is behaving aggressively.
  3. Clean up after your dog - pick up bags and trash cans are provided.
  4. Do not bring any food for people or animals inside the dog park area.
  5. Open only one of the double fenced entry/exit gates at a time. The two gates are to insure nobody’s dog can bolt out of the dog park and be lost or killed by a car.
  1. Remove your dog’s leash while between the two entry buffer gates. Leaving your dog leashed while approached by a loose dog can start a dog fight.
  2. Do not run in the dog park. Do not allow children to run in the dog park.

Informal Lure Coursing Day
Early Spring (Feb – Apr)

An introduction to the sport of lure coursing for members and their Basenjis. Usually held at the Haggard Ranch, this event includes structured running of dogs, a cookout and a private dog park play area where the dogs unwind after chasing the “bunny".

DFWBC Specialty Dog Show
(March)

AKC conformation event held in conjunction with the Fort Worth Kennel Club's weekend of All Breed shows held at the Amon Carter Exhibit Center in Fort Worth on a Friday evening. Click here for information about this year's show.

Basenjilympics
Late Spring/Early Summer (May – June)
A fun event where Basenjis compete for the distinction of having the blackest nose, tightest tail curl, best yodel, best trick and a variety of other fun categories. This is where the non-showing Basenjis get to strut the stuff that makes each one unique. Usually held at the White Rock Lake Park’s Bath Pavillion before the temperatures get too hot.

Basenji Pool Party
Summer (June – Aug, temperature dependent)
Basenjis may hate the water, but everyone has fun at this event. People and their dogs lounge around the pool or float on foam rafts waiting for the BBQ to be ready. Of course there is a swimsuit competition: best male and female beach outfit on a Basenji. Usually held in Dallas.

Holiday Party with Basenji Gift Exchange
Winter (Dec or Jan)

A pot luck meal for people only. Food and fun as we eat, drink and trade gifts with a Basenji theme: either for a Basenji or with a Basenji on the item. Start scouting gift items online early for this one.
